Is the identification performance of airport bird-deterrent equipment affected by the background?


It will be affected, but the impact is controllable, and thermal imaging is less susceptible to background interference than visible-light imaging.
• The primary sources of interference in thermal imaging recognition are “insufficient temperature contrast” and “complex thermal backgrounds.” For example, ground or rooftops exposed to direct sunlight, engine exhaust outlets, hot rocks, and reflections from warm water surfaces can reduce the temperature difference between the target and the background or create spurious hot spots. Similarly, post-rain conditions and hazy or foggy weather can lower overall temperature contrasts, making the target edges less distinct. The device supports white-hot, black-hot, and multiple pseudo-color palettes, as well as hotspot tracking, 1–8× electronic zoom, and picture-in-picture magnification, all of which help enhance contrast and improve target acquisition.
• Visible-light/green-laser visual performance is more sensitive to the background: backlighting, strong reflections, light-colored backgrounds, and smoke or haze can significantly reduce visibility and the “visible beam” effect of the laser; however, this does not affect thermal imaging as the primary detection method for initial target acquisition.
On-site operational recommendations: First, use thermal imaging to conduct hotspot screening in the area with the most complex background → enable tracking and zoom in for confirmation → if necessary, switch polarity or apply false-color enhancement to improve contrast → then perform distance measurement and implement tiered crowd control measures.
